Upholding Our Values: A Vision for LGBTQ+ Support in Livingston Schools

ree

In Livingston schools, we firmly uphold The New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (LAD), a testament to our dedication to creating an environment free from discrimination. Let's spotlight District Policy 5756 - TRANSGENDER STUDENTS, birthed in 2015 and honed in 2019. This not only aligns with state law but also exemplifies our district's commitment to progress and inclusion.

My campaign is anchored in three defining principles: Excellence, Empathy, and Equity. These principles don't merely stand as ideals; they are intricately woven into our strategic plan, district goals, and the portrait of a Livingston graduate.

Our middle and high schools have actively championed inclusive spaces like the Gender Sexuality Alliance and the SPECTRUM CLUB at MPM and Heritage. Their significance goes beyond just being clubs. They are pivotal in actualizing our strategic plan's goal of fostering a nurturing environment. They serve as both sanctuaries and educational hubs for LGBTQ students, furthering acceptance and understanding within the broader student community.

The LPS Code of Conduct echoes our strategic vision – bullying and harassment are unacceptable. Drawing from our district's goal and the envisioned portrait of a graduate, we aim for every individual to emerge from our schools as champions of respect, understanding, and diversity. In line with these values, my dedication to the LGBTQ+ community remains unshakeable. Schools must be arenas where every student, irrespective of their identity, feels safe, recognized, and lauded for their unique self.
